November 7, 2001 24 Hours
Inspired by the new show 24, I thought I would record my day by the clock.
12am: I was drifting to sleep. I should have already been asleep, but I wasn’t. I dreamed, but don’t remember what.
4:00am: Woke up. I saw the time and rolled over to try and get back to sleep.
6:45am: Wake up and roll over. This time I hold Jason.
6:50am: Jason wakes up and hugs me before he gets up and gets ready for work. I go back to sleep.
7:30am: Jason comes in to say goodbye and leaves for work.
8:30am: I got up and drag the laundry out into the living room. I went to the bathroom and then went to the kitchen to get something to drink. I pour a glass of OJ, rewind my tape and sit down to watch 24 while nibble on some cookies.
9:03am: I check email. There is one message from Mom. I printed out a document and visited the restroom again as it prints.
9:15am: Shut off computer and watch TV some more.
9:30am: Turn off TV, take out tape and grab my stuff before heading out the door.
9:46am: Park in Graham Parking lot.
9:48am: Arrive at Langenfield’s office. My appointment wasn’t until 10am. Langenfield spoke to another woman on the faculty and then turned to me. We spoke briefly and then he sent me to see Mary Ellis Gibson in Foust. It was her signature I needed to schedule an Independent Study.
9:58am: I arrived at the Foust Building where the Women’s Study office is located. Mary Ellis was there, but on the phone. She hung up and I told her what I needed. “So Christian agreed?” she asked and I nodded yes. She shook my hand. I wasn’t sure if she was congratulating me on getting things accomplished so quickly or because she didn’t think Christian Moraru would agree. Anyway, she signed the papers and photocopied them. I headed off to Mossman with my copy.
10:12am: I arrived at Mossman to register for classes. I fill out a paper and the girl at the computer registers me, but tells me I can’t register for Casey’s class without her permission.
10:20am: I arrive at the Curry Building to visit Katherine Casey, who was not in her office. I speak to her neighbor. Casey comes back just long enough to tell me that her class is full and she won’t let me register for her class. The only other option I have is to register for a Non-English Literature Women’s Studies class.
10:43am: I swung by McIver to make photocopies of my paperwork and drop it off at Christian’s office. I tell him that I will be in contact before December to discuss the Independent Study.
10:48am: I go back to Foust to find out who Mary Morgan is and where her office is located. I used the Office Directory. She is in the Human Development and Family Department located in the Stone Building. I take off across the lawn to go to Stone.
10:56am: I wander through Stone in search of Office 130. Once I locate the office and Mary Morgan, I inquire about signing up for her Women’s Study class. She said I didn’t need her permission. I was able to register for her class using her computer to log on to system. Once finished, I thanked her and bid goodbye.
11:11am: I get in the car in the parking lot and rive away. The meter had expired, but no ticket Thank God!
11:33am: Arrived Home.
11:40am: I pack up the laundry in the car.
11:45: I start laundry at the Laundromat
12:04pm: I put my 2 loads of laundry in the dryer.
12:06pm: I went to the bank across the street from the Laundromat. There I cash and deposit the check Mom sent me for $50.
12:18pm: I get back to the Laundromat and sit down to read Freud for my Feminist Theory class.
12:54pm: I leave for home after my clothes are done drying.
1:00pm: Home. I unload the laundry and put it away.
1:30pm: I am done putting away laundry and Jason arrives home. We cuddle a bit and Jason looks up a Mountain Bike trail on the Computer.
2:00pm: Leave for Country Park.
3:30pm: Get home from Country Park.
3:40pm: Clean and Sweep.
3:44pm: Mop.
3:46pm: I check my email. There is a message from fellow Grad Student George Upper about the Poetry Online Journal. There is also a message from Dianne Gill about the Women’s Studies Program requirements.
4:00pm: Begin cooking dinner.
4:15pm: Eat dinner and talk to Jason. Then begin watching TV and writing.
5:05pm: Finish Diary Entry up this point and begin homework.
5:45pm: Back to studying and watching the movie Airplane on TV.
5:48pm: Decide to take a shower.
6:00pm: Out of shower. Get dressed and read.
6:08pm: Jason leaves for his class. We kiss and hug before he leaves. Once he is gone I change the channel from Drew Carey to the Simpsons.
6:30pm: Change the channel to Thirtysomething and go back to studying. I read the table of contents for text books and poetry collections to get an idea for my Women’s Poetry Syllabus I am planning for my Women Writers of the 19th Century class project.
6:50pm: AT&T calls. I politely say no to the telemarketer and hang up.
7:00pm: Change channel to ABC to watch Access Hollywood.
7:25pm: Break from reading and watching TV to get a drink and put the clean dishes away.
7:45pm: Allison comes over and we talk—catch up on things.
8 :35pm: Allison is tired and heads home.
8:40pm: Music break. I turn up the music loud and dance in my underwear.
9:00pm: Back to studying and watching TV. My energy burst was short lived and I was getting a huge headache.
9:50pm: Jason home.
9:55pm: I am finished writing for the night. I decided to purchase the Norton Anthology of Women’s Writers someday when I can afford it. Jason eats cereal.
10:00pm: Clean up and watch the beginning of the rerun of Wonder Years.
10:10pm: Go to the bathroom and brush teeth. Then I finally go to bed.
10:43pm: Try to stop talking to Jason and go to sleep.
12:00am: Drifting to sleep or perhaps already asleep. I don’t remember.
1:40am: Get up to go to the bathroom and get a drink.
6:50am: Jason gets up and another day begins!
